McKeevers Chemists are supporting the drive to get more people onto the Bone Marrow Donor Register by making swab kits available in each of their 22 stores across Northern Ireland.  The drive is part of the ‘Doing It For Daniel Campaign’ in support of 14 year old Newry boy Daniel Greer who is currently undergoing chemotherapy in the Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children.

Paul McKeever, Managing Director explained ‘At McKeevers we pride ourselves as being actively involved in, and at the heart of the communities we serve and we’ve been overwhelmed by Daniel’s story and his mum Anne’s plea for help. In order to help Daniel and many others like him, we need to build the possible donor register to help those in need.’

‘Every match made is a potential life saved and if our team can play a small part in helping Daniel and the team at DKMS to increase awareness and ultimately increase donors then we are only too happy to help out if we can.’

‘We’re partnering with DKMS and swab kits will be available in each of our stores.  They are simple to complete, and we’ll ensure the completed kits are returned to DKMS as quickly as possible.  If you need assistance or guidance, our staff will be on hand to help you out.’

Daniel’s mum Anne Greer stated ‘We have been overwhelmed by the response from the community of Newry and beyond.  Our plea for help is reaching all parts of the globe.  People have been and continue to be so good, thoughtful and supportive.’

‘Daniel is just the life and soul of our family and our home.  There’s never a dull moment when Daniel is around and even though he is going through a tough time at the minute he is delighted with the way people are reaching out and offering help in any way they can.’

‘For us, the best way people can help is to join the register of potential bone marrow donors.  Every additional donor on the register increases our chance of getting a match for Daniel and other families in a similar position.’

‘We are delighted with the support from our local community and want to thank Paul and the team at McKeever’s Chemists for their support.  To have this service available in so many outlets is a big boost to our campaign and the easier we can make it for people to join the register the better.  It only takes one match to save a life and I would appeal for everyone to take part.’

From Monday 1st August  DKMS Donor Swab Kits are available in your local McKeevers store at Monaghan Street, Newry; Marcus Square, Newry; Mill Street, Newry and Bridge Street Rostrevor.  Please ask a member of our staff or instore Pharmacist for assistance and a Donor Kit.
