Our one-off vaccination provides long-lasting protection against pneumococcal pneumonia. You can schedule your vaccination at any time of the year, and no annual booster doses are required. Please note that this service is not provided by the NHS.


What is pneumonia?


Pneumonia is a severe infection that can affect anyone. It spreads from person to person through coughing and sneezing. In the UK, approximately 5-11 adults out of every 1,000 develop pneumonia each year.


Who is this service suitable for?


McKeevers Chemists Pneumonia Vaccination Service is suitable for individuals aged 18 and over.*

Pneumonia can affect individuals of any age but is more common and severe in certain groups, including:

  • Elderly individuals
  • Smokers
  • Individuals with underlying health conditions such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, or heart, kidney, or liver conditions
  • Individuals with weakened immune systems

The vaccination is also recommended for individuals traveling to regions with higher rates of pneumococcal infections, such as countries in Africa and South East Asia.^

If you are 65 or older, you may be eligible for a free NHS pneumonia vaccination. Speak to your GP if you haven't already received the NHS vaccination. Individuals under 65 with long-term health conditions may also qualify for a free pneumonia vaccination from their GP.^^ However, please note that the NHS vaccination differs from the one provided by McKeevers Chemists.


Who should not receive this service?


This service is not suitable for individuals who are:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy
  • Known to have had allergic reactions to injections or vaccinations in the past
