What can I expect from the Varicella Zoster Immunity Profile?

With this test we can check for either antibodies showing or rulling out a current infection or antibidies that show immunity for a past infection.

Some people will require this blood test when travelling to certain countires or for occupational health reasons where you need to be able to show you dont currently have an active infection or are protected from the Varicella Zoster virus.

This test checks 1 biomarkers from either IgM or IgG antibodies

Click on the sections below to discover more detailed information

Varicella Zoster IgM

During an immune response to a foreign antigen, B cells begin to secrete antibodies. The first antibodies it secretes are called IgM (Immunoglobulin M). IgM can be found as early as 3 days after infection and provides the first line of antibodies in immunity defense. Checking for IgM antibodies, when present show a current active infection and when absent will show you do not have an active current infection

Varicella Zoster IgG

During an immune response to a foreign antigen, B cells begin to secrete antibodies. The first antibodies it secretes are called IgM (Immunoglobulin M). After more exposure to the antigen, B-cells then begin to produce IgG antibodies (Immunoglobulin G) which play a key role in long-term immune memory. Checking for IgG antibodies, when present show your immune system has learned from a past infection and can protect you against furture infection, therefore you will have long term immunity to Varicella Zoster. When IgG antibodies are absent this confirms you are not currently immune to the Varicella Zoster virus.
