NHS Funded Smoking Cessation Programme

What is the Smoking Cessation Programme?

  • Access to on-going support for 12 weeks such as consultations with a trained advisor.
  • Advice on and supply of stop smoking medicines if they are suitable for you.
  • This service staffed by expert advisers who are trained to provide a range of proven methods to help you quit.
  • They'll give you accurate information and advice, as well as professional support, during the first few months you stop smoking.

What are the benefits of quitting smoking?

  • People breathe more easily and cough less when they give up smoking because their lung capacity improves by up to 10% within 9 months.
  • Within 2 to 12 weeks of stopping smoking, your blood circulation improves. This makes all physical activity, including walking and running, much easier.
  • You'll also give a boost to your immune system, making it easier to fight off colds and flus. The increase in oxygen in the body can also reduce tiredness and the likelihood of headaches.
  • Giving up tobacco stops teeth becoming stained, and you'll have fresher breath.
  • Ex-smokers are also less likely than smokers to get gum disease and prematurely lose their teeth.
